Heart Health Love

February is Heart Health Month! Two weeks ago we talked about loving others well, last week we talked about loving ourselves well...today we are talking bout loving our hearts well! Watch the video to learn key nutrients to focus on for heart health:

As I mentioned in the video, heart disease is an inflammatory process and is impacted by multiple body systems and reactions over a long period of time. Hitting on every aspect of heart health in one blog post is not realistic, so I am focusing on the biggest things YOU can do to keep your ticker ticking as it should.

Nutrients to Support Heart Health:

1. Antioxidants + Polyphenols - found mostly in fruits and veggies. Make vegetables the foundation of your diet, and make sure you eat a variety of colors to get a variety of nutrients.

2. B Vitamins - help to keep your blood vessels from scarring in part by keeping blood pressure in check as well as improving our cholesterol profile

3. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) - Required in large amounts for our cardiac muscle (our heart) to function properly. Statin drugs deplete CoQ10, so if you are on a statin, talk with your healthcare provider about including a CoQ10 supplement. My favorite is the Pure Encapsulations product pictured below. 4. Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Omega-3 oils help to reduce inflammation as well as promote a healthy cholesterol profile. Get these oils in fatty fish, such as salmon (shop the most delicious ever, sustainably fished salmon here), or you can take an omega-3 supplement to ensure you're getting enough - my favorite is the Nordic Naturals product below. In addition to key nutrients for heart health, we want to make sure that we are considering our body as a whole. Make sure you're getting a good amount and good quality of sleep, exercising regularly (current recommendations are at least 150 minutes of moderate activity/week), and managing stress.

There you have it! How is your lifestyle promoting your heart health? Did you learn anything new? Is there something from this blog post that you are going to incorporate first? Comment below, I would love to hear from you!
